Genesis 3 16:20
Genesis 3 16:20
16: Unto the woman He said, “I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception. In sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.”
17: And unto Adam He said, “Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree of which I commanded thee, saying, ‘Thou shalt not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life.
18: Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee, and thou shalt eat the herb of the field.
19: In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread till thou return unto the ground, for out of it wast thou taken; for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”
20: And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

Within these depictions, the narrator went for a God whom is fierce and stern. And apparently God is cursing Adam/Man and Eve/Woman. A fearful God that brings wrath to two innocent beings. Again, it comes off as a no questions ask totalitarian authority. I will explain further the deeper meaning of the story of Eden within the next bible verses 3- 21:24. Don’t feel disheartened by the extremities of this story.
The plant thistle is mentioned here. Plants are known to have healing properties or can be poisonous. Therefore, by knowing how we handle and utilize herbs can be beneficial. Thistles are flowers that have spiney characteristics and within the middle east it is very unpleasant shrub to brush against off.
Verse 19, explains that the so-called fall of Adam and Eve is thrown into famine as such. Where they will unable to eat from paradise and are now bread is only left to be consumed.
Verse 20 is quite a glad tiding for we know God allowed Adam to label birds and livestock. Therefore, Adam recognized his Partner and gave name to Her as Mother of life.
16: And Woman/Eve, for now you know judgement and forever you will bear offsprings of judgement and hence the cycle of psychological despair with no self-acceptance and love. And though should feel unworthy and have Man/Adam bake over you.
17: And Adam/Man, for you blame woman for your misgivings, you shall forever now not eat of the tree of judgment. Forsaken and force to be bear nothing but prejudice. And now forever will be ungrateful and unsatisfied.
18: You shall now remain in discomfort, for the herbs you eat, shall bring pain and discomfort. // For now Adam/Man only herbs of the field will be your only quench.
19: And you shall work and be in ardour. Labour are your days in and out. Hunt, gather and mill. For now you must work till all the days of your life.
20: Adam/Man had now accepted His Partner and gave Her name Eve. For Eve is Mother and Mother gives life to all.
