Old Testament

The Old Testament is the first major part of the Christian Bible, consisting of sacred texts that were written before the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. It is based largely on the Hebrew Bible.

The Pentateuch (or Torah) – Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy; these cover creation, the patriarchs, the Exodus, and God's laws.

Historical Books – Joshua through Esther; detailing the history of Israel.

Wisdom and Poetry Books – Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon.

Prophetic Books – Major Prophets (e.g., Isaiah, Jeremiah) and Minor Prophets (e.g., Hosea, Amos).
